Classes I Wish I'd Taken In Seminary
1. Walking the Fine Line Between the Prophetic and the Pastoral.
2. Hauerwas vs. Veterans' Day.
3. What's the Point of Church?
4. And Why, Exactly, Do Churches Have Pastors?
5. Hebrew 350: Shalom. Seriously, a term spent delving into all the meanings of shalom, personal and community, would have been more valuable than an entire year of Hebrew vocabulary and grammar.
6. Leadership 350: Cat Faces. Mastering the art of mimicking the faces of those who intuitively respond with impassive calm to . . . everything.
These are great! Here are two more:
ReplyDelete"But I Really Hate That Hymn!" - How to choose music when the organist hates change.
and
Anger Management 101 - How to be both pastorally loving AND righteously angry at the same time.
Oh yes. A whole class session on "In the Garden".
DeleteWhat about "How Seminary is Not Like Hogwart's" ?
ReplyDeleteIt's not?
DeleteRobin #5...oh my yes
ReplyDelete#6...I can tell when OZ is pissed at me...in the eyes and well as body language. She sits with her rear end towards me. LOL
However, there is a huge part of a cat's life that does exactly what you say.
When I googled "cat faces" I found some pretty funny expressions that, alas, are probably closer to the ones I often use.
Delete"what to do when the church basement floods."
ReplyDeleteThis reminded me of my daughter's call from NOLA on the first day of freshman orientation, which was also the day her college closed for the semester (Katrina): "Mom, what do you do when your college . . . disappears?"
DeleteClearly you went to the wrong seminary.

ReplyDeleteI love the Cat Faces image - that will now be my visual for a non-anxious presence.
