Last summer when I had been a pastor for just under a year, our 40-something church secretary died within minutes of suffering a heart attack while she was at home in bed. A couple of nights later, before our monthly church session/council meeting, I thought, "Someone needs to say something to acknowledge J's death and offer prayer for her family."
Then I realized: Oh. That would be me.

I have had wonderful spiritual directors. They've all been men, and their ages range from 61 - 83. Lovely, insightful, faithful, loyal men. Nevertheless, a few days ago I found myself thinking, "I wish I could find a woman spiritual director, a wise and loving woman who's about 80 and has lost a child to suicide and a breast to cancer."
And then I realized: Oh. In another twenty years, that will be me.
I guess I'd better get ready,
I guess I'd better get ready,
This is both practical and inspiring. Thanks.
