Summer Fun Friday Five

OK, I redecorated my blog and it looks all summery and nice and . . .  where is everyone????  If I play the Friday Five, will you stop by?  Songbird asks us to list five summer things we love and five we don't, so:

1. Chautauqua Institution.  I have decided I am going to try to go over and hear BBT preach at least one day at the end of July. If any RevGals will be in the vicinity, let me know and we can plan accordingly!

2. The mountains of North Carolina, where I expect to be at the end of next week as I accompany The Lovely Daughter down to her camp counselor job. Like Chautauqua, they are home to wonderful and now heartbreakingly challenging memories, and like Chautauqua, they will soon be home to some precious ashes.

(That's my girl, lower left in the gray Gwynn Valley t-shirt, in a camp promotional photo.)

3. Lemonade; even the most ordinary glass brings back lovely memories of my grandmother welcoming us home and bringing tall glasses filled with ice and lemonade out to the brick patio under the maple tree.

4.  Very early morning walks; early sunshine and quiet times at the Little Lakes.

5.  Feet: flip-flops and Tevas and sparkles on top of dark red nail polish.

I don't not love anything about summer except the humidity.  We don't have AC and I am already tired of requiring a fan, a glass of ice, and a cold washcloth to achieve even a restless sleep.

So, put on your flip-flops  and stop by for some lemonade in the sweltering shade!

  1. Part of me wishes we did not have A/C...I remember those HOT summer nights in college when I tried to sleep in the heat and humidity...but I love having windows open and letting the natural light wake me up early. Enjoy those morning walks and the easy dressing of summer. (ANd, I like the new blog-look)

  2. I've been by, just haven't taken the time to comment. Sorry about that. I like the new look...and the mountains in summer.

  3. Love lemonade, but I don't have it much for some reason. The NC mountains ARE spectacular. I keep thinking of retiring there, though the locale for that will probably be dictated more by the location of grandchildren.

I never lived with air conditioning until I moved to St. Louis when I was almost 40. Amazing to think about now, but that's life north of the Mason-Dixon!

Thoughts and hugs as you head toward heartbreak-territory.

  4. I love my feet the VERY same way! :)

    Blessings on your travel.

  5. Oh, at least get a window unit. Actually, when I lived in Cleveland, I only had window units in the bedrooms that came out in the winter and went back in in the summer.

  7. I lived for 45 years without home air conditioning...I still can't get used to it. Fellow Traveler, who needs AC because of asthma issues, doesn't always understand my need to occasionally escape to the heat and humidity so I can recalibrate my body to the actual weather, LOL.

  8. Lemonade in the summer is tasty. I don't drink it much anymore because of its calendars. I remember a wonderful glass when my husband were in Ashland, OR years ago for the Shakespeare Festival when it was so hot. (Then I didn't know what HOT was, as I hadn't lived in TX yet.)

I like your cool blue looks of your blog!

  10. What fun! I love birds singing in the cool mornings on the mountain; crystal sunshine; freedom of no coat; tangles of my pretty weeds; mowing the lawn. And I do not like much the western wild fires in August; yellow jacket hornets; temperatures above 80;when the steering wheel is too hot to touch; being sticky.

  12. Love the new look. The clouds are the perfect balance between tranquility and storminess. Could never live without a/c here.

  13. I love writing on clouds! We have lemonade over here on Bellfield year around, come over and sit on our porch and have some! Blessings as you travel this summer to the special memory-places.

  14. I would be interested in knowing when you are headed to Chautauqua. My kids are going to camp for two weeks this year at about that time so it might work for me.

I love summer too - no air conditioning here either but it is just a bit cooler. I like the new look on your blog!
